Film and portfolio are finished and the art is here. There are a few things that have been posted before but it now has more context. I won't be able to post the whole film for a while because of festival rules and regulations but I think trailers are allowed. So we will see. Enjoy.
Hey pick up a copy of the open show DVD for me if you can... We can do a switcheroo.
By the way festivals are for the weak and you made me type "objwmkmm" just to post this which is a cruel form of punishment when you're doing it from an iPod touch keyboard.
Thanks Matt. That illustration you are referring to was done with photoshop in a collage-ish style. All the textures are from photographs or scanned pencil textures.
Alan- There you have it. I'll try and keep up the posts to avoid your griping. Festivals can be awesome, but the rules are lame. sometines they have great prizes and maybe I can find someone to finance the production of another film. I spent 8 months working on this beast and now its gonna work for me. Plus your getting a copy anyways so chill.
mj- I started production in September right as school kicked off. I had some chicken scratch thumnails for boards that weren't anything like the final film. I ended up just making the film on the fly which is way more fun.
Your development art work is so awesome, just so, so, so inspiring. Through out our 4 years at Cal Arts you have constantly raised the bar, influencing and pushing everyone with your talent.
Oh yeah, i love the scene in your film with the conflict between the Cat & Windmill, it gives me chills everytime i see it.
Saw your film finish the Producers' Show last night. Very impressive. First class from concept to execution, and obviously a great deal of effort to get there- you should feel secure that it was worth it. Well done, and congratulations.
Ian, well what can i say that i haven't already, your film was amazing and its going to be very difficult to get close to that in three more years, the only hope is we get close. Thanks for the post great stuff. Ethan Hegge
Hello there, Ian. This is Benett of 3rd year. I just wanted to say I can never thank enough for your time on the workshop yesterday. It was very useful indeed. From now on, I shall keep my eyes on your blog. Congratulations on graduating, Ian.
Holy CRAP! I heard your film is amazing from some friends who got to make it out to the open show! I must see it, cause these images are Great!! (As was your last film!)
I came across "Icarus and the Tree Herder" by chance on YouTube. I'd actually been looking at Japanese, Russian and Hungarian animations. It is an amazing piece of work coupled with brilliant music. Look forward to more!
I know the story of Icarus and all that, but is your animation an interpretation of that legend or is there another meaning? (Or do I simply interpret it as I see fit?)
Thanks Antony. Icarus & the Tree Herder had a little of the original myth in it. The two characters, Icarus and the minotaur, are the only ties. When I began development I had the labyrinth and Daedalus, but then my imagination took over and the story started to evolve on its own. It doesn't have any meaning other than what you see on the surface.
Wow, you're a real good illustrator, I'm very curious about your animation! I study media design in Milan, at NABA, so I study animation too, but I'm at the first year. My first real animation film is in this days... I'll come back here! Sure!
Hey! I watched Second Wind over and over again and I still can't get enough of it. You really do have a beautiful mind! And 10+ for the technical details!! And for the choice of music. What programs did you use for the animation? Sure hope to see more work from you soon!!
Hi, i wanted say your job is incredible, exciting because allow me feel different sensations since couriosity, fear, surprise and friendship... Its amazing. Thanks to share it. Dana

Quick question: On PORT_017.jpg is that collage or 3D? It's a really interesting look.
Woohoo!
It looks awesome Ian!
Can't wait to see it. Congrats dude.
Hopefully we'll meet up sometime.

NICE. (Be sure to tell us when it's online in some more accessible form, so I can show it to my folks.^__^)
Awesome post Ian. Sucks about the festival rules. What about last years's film? The one following the Tree Herder. Can that be found online anywhere?
Anyway, keep up the good work and great posts. Congrats on the festival!
Thanks everyone.
Moro - the film is in my public folder if you want to burn a copy.
Brian B - Icarus was my second year film and I didn't make a film my third year. Second Wind is my fourth year film.
